There are many fish you can catch from the beach here in NW Florida. You probably shouldn’t use a deep sea pole though since you will need to cast out pretty far.
Also, you will need to buy a fishing license from Wal-Mart or a tackle shop since fishing without one can gain you some hefty fines.
Check out the forum in the source section for a lot of excellent info on surf fishing in the Panhandle.
If you are targeting sharks you will need large group hooks at least 4/0 but probably larger and some serious wire leader.
For bait anything bloody will work for sharks. Chunks cut up or whole fish, live hardtails (blue sprinter), or any med sized injured fish will work.
Ahead of schedule morning, at dusk, or at night are the best times for shark fishing.
Do not fish for sharks around heavily frequented swiming access points unless its at night.
If you want to try your luck for some redfish, whiting, trout, ladyfish, jack creavele or bluefish all you will need is some 20-30lb test line, flourocarbon leader 30-40lb, some 2/0 – 3/0 hooks, 1-4oz pyramid weights(depending on surf) and for bait live baitfish (pinfish, cigar minows, hardtail), shrimp, cut bait (cut up fish) and fish it on the bottom.
Id advise against using the “Deep Sea pole” unless fishing on the bottom streight down from a fishing pier. I would get a Med Heavy spiraling setup if you can.
You will want to go to Wal-Mart and get some pole holders (pvc pipe that you stick your poles in so they dont get sand in them) dig the poles into the sand pretty deep and set your drag realy light. last thing you want is a monster shark or fish pulling all your gear out to sea.
You will want to cast your bait into the guts (deeper, darker colored fill up that runs paralel to the beach about 30-40 yeards from the shore) these are the “fish highways” they use to cruise up and down the beach looking for food.
This is just vital info but to have the best chance to catch “the huge one” I would read some of the posts on the forum I gave at the bottom. The members are experienced panhandle fisherman and can lead you in the right direction. Dont be frightened to join and question questions the members are more than willing to help out small of telltale you their hoiney holes.
Excellent luck and delight in our gorgeous beaches!

well first off, is your deep sea fishing combo a spiraling combo, or your conventional offshore combo? if its a spiraling reel you will have a lot more options in terms of baits to use. if you want more action i would recomend using real bait, if you can catch the bait live it will be better. you can catch them on small spoons or any small tube or your convential crankbait or top fill up plug. the bait fish you should look for are the ballyhoo, the blue sprinter, mullet, sand perch, and pinfish. if rigged corectly these baits should trigger reaction strikes off the sharks and additional ocean dewling creaters, such as baracuda, many species of shark, an occasional black fin tuna etc.

If you buy the community paper and look in the sports section they should tell you when the tides are high or low, what kind of fish you can catch, and most significantly what you can use. It helps huge time. Excellent Luck

If that’s a small, strong rod with a large reel, you need to fish on the pier. You can’t cast far with those things. Try squid, live pin fish or shrimp.

In CA, you wouldn’t have very excellent luck with anything using a deep sea rod for beach fishing. I don’t know if it is different in FL, but I assume not…
