You mean could you handle the bait?

Marlin (depending on the species) are huge fish, so in general you need huge baits or lures. If you’re going out on a charter boat with marlin, the boat will have whatever you need. On these boats, the fight is generally done in a fighting chair, which is designed to allow a maximum amount of pulling, so I’m sure a 12-year ancient could handle it.

I’ve spellbound stripy marlin in the 100 pound class on mackerel 10 to 12 inches long, except for one I got on a 6 inch sardine when fishing for tuna. Off Southern California and Baja, it’s common to cast a live bait for marlin, in additional parts of the world it’s more common to troll large skirted lures.

As long as you are with a adult but I would say a huge fit person is required for this type of fishing as you never know the size of fish you have hooked. I would always say over 16 to 18 but this is your pronouncement.
