What baits do u use when fishing through the ice?

Published by admin at 9:16 pm under Fishing FAQ

I’m new to ice fishing and would like to have any suggestions on baits to use to catch stubborn fish. Ive used wax worms and spikes but not much action. Any good tips?

anything with a glowing hook is great for mid-winter fishing

    I usually use anal beads.

Try the plain old minnows and three-way spreader on a tip-up.

Really depends on what your fishing for.If your pike fishing a tip up with a treble hook works good near weed beds.In the winter use a minnow doesn’t matter if its alive or dead.Fishing for pan fish a small jig with a short rod works good also.Good luck.

If your fishing with Wax worms and spikes try changing your presentation.. I used a little ice pick that looked like a dry fly last weekend with a pink spike on it and caught about 50 pan fish in central Wisconsin.. If you use Crappie minnows bring it off the bottom a little bit… and very your depth a little bit until you start catching fish..Good luck and stay warm
