I am going to Gulf Shores, AL, for a week beginning this Saturday and plot on fishing off a inflatable rubber raft 50 – 100 yards off the shore. What baits/lures should I use? What kind of fish can I catch? What time of day is best/worst for fishing? Any tips would be helpful.

take the answer from someone who might have fished there, you see what happens when people just estimate
dude in an inflatable row boat you aren’t going to be chasing down birds smashing the surface eating or off shore far enough for the real fish that eat squid to be around. fish from the bottom up for an hour just cast a half a frozen anchovy out with a 3/4 ounce weight count the seconds it drops to know your depth under you. Or you can cast out a whole anchovy glide lined (without weight) if you can place your inflatable over any kind of structure (under the fill up) there might be some fish around. 50 – 100 yards might only be three feet deep why not try and snorkel all over for a couple of hours and see what’s around? in the evening I like casting freshwater crankbaits and top fill up plugs. And just incase you do get into one of those epic times where the birds are crashing the surface all around you it’s like their crashing, rings a dinner bell below the surface and the larger fish come around pushing the bait up from bottom and you can cast anything (nearly) into the bait balls and with the birds crashing the surface the fish bottom will for sure grab your bait. (try to use a crankbait that best looks like the bait fish around you)
lol this is amusing. I’m in fact in gulf shores right now. The best bait and lures for this area is dead minows shrimp, and from where im fishing. squid. (the bait shop close to where you would be fishing does not sell live bait. but if you can get your hands on that, itd be nice) The worst time is the afternoon. You need to go either in the morning or go night fishing. I’m not saying the middle isn’t excellent but the best time is when the fish are hungry. Ahead of schedule. and late.
i prefer going in the morning. getting there at about 8. I can update my answer tomorrow with i go fishing to tell you what kind of fish i spellbound, but i’m pretty sure the normal are snapper and maybe even a stripy bass
(rarely spellbound). The best way to get information is your community bait shop.
Follow the birds, if there’s birds, there’s baitfish, where there’s baitfish, there’s larger fish.
Dawn and Dusk.
I like to use shrimp.
when fishing off shore i use squid as my bait and i go right before sundown and when the tide is coming in.
try fishing near fish schools were their is fish schools their will be predators
