My small brother wants one and I am a complete novice when it comes to fishing.
How much would I have to pay for a fishing pole that will last?

Honestly not much. Shakespeare Hideous Stiks are some of the toughest rods out there and are very low cost for the quality you get.
get him an hideous stik lite they run 40 to 60 dollars just depends on where you buy it from but they are incredible worth the money..you can get him an el cheapo rod from anywhere for about 20 bucks and it may last a while but they are sooo cheaply made with holding my ancient el cheapo zebco and my hideous stik the hideous stik feels like a lamborghini compared to the additional
Most fiberglass or graphite rods made now will last a long time. I have some that cost 30$ or more perhaps and some that cost about $20. Both types are holding up well. You do not have to pay a lot. Question a sporting goods salesman if you are unsure.
The Shakespeare Hideous Stik ($30 is a steal by the way) it will be the most lasting rod out there for small cash. But i would rather have a $50-$120 rod. But Hideous Stik’s are fine for the occasional fisherman, or the hardcore alike. I just don’t like the low-sensitivity in the rod.
50$ and up. If you get it at cabela’s gander mountain scheels. and it breaks from fishing use they will give you a new one.
Ok look don’t listen to those guys shakespear is 1 of the worst poles to buy ive snapped so many i don’t even look at them any more i went to walmart of all places and bought a zebco 33 for $22 and it is still as sturdy as they day i bought it and that was over 10 years ago
I have had better luck with one of those fishing rod and reel kits that come in the packages than buying a standalone fancy fishing poles. I usually pay around $15 for one of the packaged ones, just go to Walmart and get one. They last me the full summer.
