Squeeze it into a ball and it will stay on. OK for Perch and Crappie.
Edit: Somebody doesn’t like my answers.
Yeah I forgot to mention that in brine, especially near shore like piers and breakwaters bread or dough is very excellent for Perch and additional surf feeders. And yes in original for Carp. Canned corn also works for Carp. And although most people reckon of Carp as trash fish, asians eat it on a regular basis and make it pretty darned tasty.
Charles C is dead right! (Thumbs up Bro.)
Make a “dough ball” and mash the bread/dough ball on your hook. Make sure the bread/dough is “formed” around the hook.
Bread/dough balls work well for a variety of Freshwater fish including all Bluegill, Shellcracker, Perch, some Catfish, Etc.
In brine a bread ball can work on- Mullet, Pinfish, Eel, Croaker, and Sail-Cats.
Bread works fantastic for carp.
The tighter you pack it around the hook, the longer it will last. You can make it rock hard if you want, and it can then last for hours since the fill up mixing with the bread makes it like a glue. But keep in mind that you want it to remain a small bit flaky and not packed too tight, that way it will place more fragrance into the fill up.
Hi Racer, If you pull off a cut of bread about the size of your thumb nail and fold this around the hook and squeeze only around the hook, this leaves a flaky part for the fish to go for and will attract them and it will also stay on your hook for some time. If float fishing this way I would check the bait regularly to make sure it is still on. If floating crust for Carp then use the crust by hooking the crust through the hook a couple of times and use a un – cut loaf with a cut of crust 30mm across as to disguise the hook as floating crust for carp on the surface is fantastic fun as you can watch the carp come for the crust and take off. Fantastic thrill.
SQUEEZE IT.
Bread will fall off your hook since it dissolves in fill up. If this happens you are wasting valuable fishing time with out bait and you don`t even know it.better solution is to buy dough the kind in the cardboard roll that you pop open. This will stay on your hook longer. let me suggest a small treble hook this hook gives more support to the dough. And a lot of fish like dough especially your plant eaters and perch, sunfish, etc.
here’s a trick you may like to try, i have and it works well,
cut a whitish sponge into litle bits about 13mm size, get some bread and mash it in a small fill up the soak up juices into the sponge the hook the songe and use that,
Yes, bread does work, just add a small fill up to the bread take a small amount and roll it in your hands to form a ball and apply to the hook.
*why all the terrible ratings for s_m_c?*
bread is excellent for carp and perch. i have used it for brine fishing i spellbound mackerel and jack smelt the way i used it is to place fill up on it and make it into a doug
