Well i got a new open cast fishing reel and how do i set the drag on it?
Also whenever i seem to snag on something heavy, a ton of line goes out?
I am assuming this is drag?

Well depending on your reel there should be a a knob on the same side as your crank, that you reel in the line with. Adjusting that knob will either tighten or loosen your drag. An simple way to determine the right drag is to tighten up your drag all of the way. Then push the release button and loosen the drag until your bait that you are using slowly starts to fall. This will minimize backlashes, and be pretty close to the proper drag. If you have the proper equipment such as a scale you can set the drag to 2/3rds of the actual poundage of your line. IE set your drag for 6 pounds if you are using 9 pound test line.
Yes that it the drag Now for the brake it will look like a knob first off place your bait on the end of your line. Then press release line and see how far it goes down. I usually tighten it so when I giggle the rod the line goes down.
