I just found out that my reel only holds 6 lb. test line. I can’t catch the size of fish that i would like to with 6 lb. test line and i would like a new reel. What should i consider before buying a new reel? also i would like to have a spinning reel.

Namely, rod, reel, line weight, weights, etc…the basics for someone with no equip!!!

I don’t have to have top of the line equipment, but I would like to invest in reasonably priced, good equipment that will last. I am aiming to catch red fish, SW trout, pompano, and other medium sized fish out of the surf.

I saw a video on Americas funniest videos and the guy flew off the back of the boat and was strapped to his pole. I was thinking about doing this in Hawaii but sure as hell don’t want to be pulled down, Im terrified of deep water.
So what happens, is there like a safety quick release? How fast could a marlin pull you down?
