Since I don’t know what the obvious basics you know are, please excuse if I tell you something you by now know:

Fish the right time- Usually ahead of schedule morning, and ahead of schedule evening til dark will be best.

Cloudy days, and days with a small go on the fill up will be best- the fish will feel safer from predators.

Fish with the right bait- THis may involve some examination and error, but if you can figure out what the fish normall feed on, and imitate it, you will be in excellent shape. For bass, imitate small minnows, frogs, insects such as damselfly nymphs, dragonfly nymphs, etc. Aslo, they like the usual plastic worms and soft plastic baits. For panfish, worms, small flies and poppers.

Fish in the right place- Look for areas where the fish will feel safe- near dropoffs, places with cover- brushpiles, logs, deep holes, etc. If there is an area where there is a consistent food source, thats a excellent spot- If you notice a place with lots of frogs and tadpoles, the fish will key on those areas. Also, anywhere there is a spring entering the fill up, an inlet or outlet are likely places.

Fill up temp is vital- find where the fill up is in the right temp for the fish to feed, and fish there. Research the fish in your pond (whats in there) and find out their preferred feeding temps, and then use a thremometer to check the fill up at different times til you find out where in the pond has the best fill up for them.

Fish the right way- Use stealth- tromping up to the bank and letting your shadow fall on the fill up is a excellent way to spook the fish. Approach carefully, and make gentle casts. some fish are trigered by a plop on the fill up, others are frightened off. Better to get the lure or bait into the fill up as quietly as possile, then let the fish be aware of the lure as you retrieve it. Caution is better.

    Excellent Luck!
