I used this 60-year old bait casting reel for pickerel fishing in the ponds near my home in MA from the time I was a kid until I tied into a 13-pound striper here in CA in 1971. The reel has no drag, no free-spool (the handle even spun when I cast with it), and the only way to keep a big fish from stripping the line from the reel was with thumb pressure. That striper (photo posted further along in my photostream - flickr.com/photos/romair/242735862/) convinced me I was in serious need of an upgrade. I hand-carved the plug in the photo and actually caught several bass with it.
